Sunday, 24th March 2019 - The 80th Sunbeam Motorcycle Club Pioneer Run

This start of season event has been run annually since 1930 for pre 1914 registered motorcycles, and although I haven't attended every one, it is a spectacular event for all Veteran & Vintage Petrolheads (Motorcycle Branch). It wasn't run during WW2, and a few years ago was cancelled due to Foot & Mouth Disease.

Our run starts at The Derby Arms PH, opposite the Grand Stand, Epsom Racecourse, at 08:30, the event actually starts at Tattenham Corner at about 08:00 so a good idea to get there early for a browse, it's amazing what metal, basket weave and leather contraptions qualify as 'Motorcycles'.

We take a country route fairly close to the run, but not enough to become a problem to the entrants, to Cowfold. The Hare & Hounds pub is our refreshment stop, with great Bacon Rolls, Coffee, and Tea.  From their car park we can watch the veterans pass by.

Due to this almost being the same as a Breakfast Run many of our riders leave for home after grub, a good gander and chinwag, and a chance to catch up with many of our more southerly members.  Usually one of our club members will then decide to continue the ride with a few others, to Brighton, and the veteran's display on The Madeira Drive.

Normally we have good weather for the run, so I invite you to dust the 'Old Girl' off, get the bike out of mothballs, and join me for a bit of nostalgia!
